slacking on the job

Well it looks like I haven't been keeping up with the blog. I don't have any thoughtful words to share today but I do have very cute photos of the past couple of weeks.  We have kept very busy these days. I can't believe that Henry is 7 weeks today, time is flying!  So here are some photographs from the past two weeks.

Henry with DeeDee and Grandpa/Granddad/whatever Henry ends up calling him

Ruth and I with our breech baby boys who were so close to having the same birthday. Jim was born on 12/06/11 which was Henry's original birthday. Daddy Kyle just got sick, so we postponed our c-section until the 12/12/11 so that Kyle could be back in top shape. But it was great to have a friend who essentially went through the same thing at the same time. I mean its a small world to be due within a week of each other but then we both find out later in the pregnancy that the boys were breech.

Old Pinecrest roommates Kyle and Robert holding their sons. Oh how things have changed....

Jim and Henry checking each other out, trying to figure out who is this other baby. So sweet!

Farmer Hank and I before his last baby shower in Powder Springs.

I look pretty cute in my bumpo, thanks DeeDee

Enjoying my super sleek baby rocker from Dr. Pat!

Then we went on a walk to neighborhood duck pond. Atlanta is just full of hidden gems.

Gotta run! I should be studying for my exams but instead I updated the blog. Oh well. Hopefully I can get some studying done in Henry's next nap period......

Ten-pounder!

We got ourselves a ten-pounder!

Just kidding, Henry looks like this....thank goodness
Henry had a great 1 month check up.  Henry is a whopping 10 lbs, 1.4 oz and 22 inches long; that's almost 3 lbs and almost 3 inches of growth. He is a growing, healthy boy, we could not be more blessed.

In addition to a great doctor's visit, we had some special visitors.  Jojo and Toppy brought over Henry's cousins. Elizabeth, Thomas and John were great and relatively quiet as Henry slept through the whole thing. But the kids got to play with Henry's toys, cannot wait to see Henry playing with his toys and his cousins.

We also had our good friends Melissa and Chris visit. They came bearing gifts for both Henry and the parents, yummy wine, a baby dumb bell and a rocking onesie.  Such sweet friends, they look like naturals holding Henry!
BTW...Roxie, I have a great art project to try out when Henry starts boot-scooting. See link. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/crafting/its-easy-baby-diy-abstract-art-with-a-twist-159919

Burrito Baby

The first night we had Henry home, to be honest, we were completely ill-prepared.  Although the middle of December, we hadn't turned on the heat.   So that first night at home, I had Henry super bundled. He wore a fleece sleep sack, long-sleeve onesie, hat, socks and mittens. See below.
That night, Henry woke up about every two hours and every time he needed a full change of clothes. The sleepsack and onesie were soiled every time. Where were the helpful Piedmont nurses? What did I do wrong? Really, a wardrobe change every couple of hours? I mean I had heard that new moms do a lot of laundry but this just seemed ridiculous.  To my credit, I did not babysit very often growing up.  It is a huge joke in my family that I put a diaper on backwards on either Elizabeth or Thomas (niece & nephew). Well my brother didn't quite think it was funny, when he was blamed for the backward diaper and its associated mess.  So apparently, I should have received some diapering 101 in the hospital, as well as mom 101.

Thankfully, two days later my mom so sweetly called in Laura Hunter, co-author of "Moms on Call".  I was in some serious need of mommy lessons.  From Laura, I learned many things. Most I am still trying to master, namely their swaddling technique. Using their wonderfully large swaddling blanket, I attempt to create her super snug "burrito-ing" technique.  Sometimes I am successful, other times...not so much.

 Swaddling pre-Laura Lessons
 Swaddling ala Moms on Call
Henry de-burrito-ing

I guess the most important thing is that Henry is sleeping but I feel like I should be better at this form of baby origami. I feel like architecture school prepared me for sleepless nights and that swaddling cannot be that different that creating a tensile structure...Well, its completely different but I feel like I should be able to swaddle (burrito) well.  Kyle and I have taken to calling it "burrito-ing".  I am sure we are not the first to do this but we think its cute and like to ask Henry "what kind of burrito are you today?".  Since he cannot respond, we come up with different responses.  From classic fillings of steak and chicken, to breakfast burritos to tofu. I am sure we will start getting more creative.

When wiggle worm wants to get out of the swaddle, he is pretty determined. I will say, it does seem to be working regardless of my technique. Our longest stretch so far is six hours of sleep. Now if that was only every night.

Picture a Day

So like a good parent, I try to take at least one picture of Henry a day. Let's be honest, I take more than one a day.  How can you not want to photograph with something that you created?  I haven't even pulled out our fancy nikon, soon. So far the pictures on the blog are just from our small pocket camera.   This posting contains pictures solely from my cell phone. These are some of my favorites. Just random moments throughout Henry's first four weeks. The camera might be packed away but it seems that my cell phone is never very far.....

So the pictures come from our precious first few days, coming home from the hospital, rolling over (which to date, Henry has done four times total, two times today!), and mainly just hanging around the house. I hope you enjoy these as much I do.
Its already hard to believe that he was ever this small.
Sweet little buddy bear!
On the way from the hospital in his adorable sweet pea hat from Kate & Jason.
First visit to the Dr. Office. Henry had gained 10 oz in 4 days.
Is it sad that I think Henry is even cute when crying?

The first time Henry rolled over, he was crying the whole time. Henry does not enjoy tummy time.
Sleepy Henry
Henry sleeping during playtime.
Riding in the car with my cool hat from my cousins
Silly yawning face
Dad pushing the stroller on our first walk
Sleepy Henry

Henry rolled over again! This time he did it calmly.....
and then he needed to cry about it.

Henry is starting to get the hang of this rolling over thing.....

Thanks for reading my post and viewing all of our photographs! Are you sick of us yet?

New Year with lots of first...

After a whopping 19 days in 2011, Henry is already to welcome 2012. We have been very busy the past week or so with visitors and lots of family first.

We had our first bath (well technically 3rd but first from Mom and Dad)...
Henry tried out his baby swing from Santa. He hated it. Still does.....
Tried out our boppy pillow from auntie Kelly O.
It seems like I am always wiggling my way out of the swaddle.....
Henry got to meet newly engaged friends Allison and Scott
Henry has rolled over, yes, rolled over during tummy time. He is not a fan of tummy time despite the cute picture below where he looks calm. It is definitely a little early to rollover but I will say we had a repeat performance today. I wish I had caught it on video. Its so amazing to see him use his muscles.
Henry went on his first walk. He, per usual, slept through the whole thing.
Henry is getting much more active during his awake time. Its really cute.
Henry also got to meet our friends Kate and Clif who nicely sat through his high-pitch screams...
And as per usual... I am in my pajamas, Henry is in a onesie and we are enjoying this time at home. I am pretty sure I can't wear pajamas to work.......
